Excess protection

This optional cover will reimburse the cost of your excess if you’re involved in an accident.

Excess protection

What is excess protection?

Excess protection means that you won’t have to pay the excess on any claim that you need to make on your car insurance, providing the value of the claim is greater than the excess.

This means that if you are in an accident that is your fault, or you need to claim because of damage or loss caused by fire, flood, theft or vandalism, you won’t need to pay a penny towards your claim.

What’s included with excess protection?

If you have excess protection, you won't have to pay your excess if you make a claim on your car insurance, so long as the amount of your claim is more than the excess.

  • A purple tick
If you claim for accidental damage to your insured car that is your fault

fire, flood, theft, vandalism and any disputed claim that cannot be settled within 6 months of the incident.

  • A purple tick
When you purchase excess protection you have the option of three tiers (£350, £500 or £1,000)

We will cover your excess up to the amount you selected.

  • A purple tick
You are covered for two claims

    within the period of insurance.

How do I check if excess protection is included in my car insurance?

Excess protection is an optional extra, so you will only have this cover if you added it when you bought your insurance. If you’re unsure about whether you have it, or what level of cover you have, the best way to check is to log in to your customer account via our website and check your policy documents. Your policy schedule will list all of the cover that you have with us.

What isn’t protected by excess protection?

For the full list of what is and isn’t covered, please check the excess protection policy wording and insurance product information document – you can find both in your customer account if you have excess protection as part of your cover. In some cases, your excess would not be covered. For example:

  • Any claims where:

the total cost of the claim, is less than the excess.

  • A cross
    Any amount that exceeds

the excess amount you chose to protect when you bought your policy.

  • Any claim where the excess has:

already been recovered, reimbursed or waived by a third party.

  • Claims resulting from:

    windscreen or glass damage.

  • Claims declined

under the terms of your car insurance.
