Travel insurance: policy types

If you’re looking for the perfect travel insurance policy, we can help. From single-trip to extreme sports cover, the right travel cover can help give you peace of mind, so you can get on with planning your holiday.

Single Trip Travel Insurance
For short-breaks of just 3 days or your annual summer holiday, single trip holiday insurance is the ideal choice if you only plan to holiday once a year.

You’ll normally be covered for holiday cancellation, delays or curtailment as well as medical treatment, hospital bills and return journey costs should you have to travel home early due to illness or injury. Many providers also offer some adventure sports cover as standard but do check the small print for any restrictions.

If you’re planning more than one trip, consider an annual travel insurance policy for value and convenience.

Annual Multi-trip Travel Insurance
An annual policy is the flexible choice if you plan to holiday more than once throughout the year. Each trip can generally last up to 90 days in length and you can travel as many times as you like. You’ll typically be covered for holiday cancellation, delays or curtailment as well as medical treatment, hospital bills and return journey costs should you have to travel home early due to illness or injury.

Many providers also offer adventure sports cover as standard but do check the small print for any restrictions as you may need to extend your cover for more extreme pursuits.

Worldwide Travel Insurance
If you're travelling long haul or you’re planning a round the world trip then you’ll need specific worldwide travel insurance, which you can usually purchase as either single trip insurance or annual multi-trip insurance. Make sure you're covered for all the destinations that you'll be visiting.

Going on a cruise? Maybe you’re visiting a variety of far-flung destinations whilst at sea. If so, you may be able to find dedicated cruise insurance so you can relax and enjoy this truly special holiday experience. Don’t assume that cruise holidays are covered under a basic travel insurance policy – check the small print as you may need to extend your cover or take out a new policy.

Wherever you’re going in the world, make sure it isn’t a country that’s listed as a no-go area by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. If it is, you’re likely to be refused cover.
