Why do I need public liability insurance?
What if a member of the public was injured on a building site you were working on or someone was killed through work you have been involved with? Public liability insurance will help to cover any costs associated with a claim for damages if you’re found to be liable. If you don’t have this, can you afford to pay for a claim for damages made against you? This could be huge financial strain.
Why do I need employers’ liability insurance?
If you hire contractors, temporary workers or casual labourers or if you have other tradesmen on your books then it's probable that you're legally required to have valid employers’ liability insurance. It’s there to protect you and your workers in case of accident, injury or death and it could help cover huge costs if an employee was seriously injured at work and filed a claim against you.
Check before you buy…
• Have you included (or excluded) any optional extras, such as tool cover or hired-in
equipment cover? What about loss of income protection – do you need it?
• Have you read through the policy documents carefully and checked the small print? Look for any exclusions or restrictions and check the amount payable in the event of a claim.
• Is your work vehicle insurance due for renewal? You might qualify for a discount if you combine both types of policy.
