Surveyors' insurance

As a surveyor, the nature of your work involves much responsibility. Your skills and knowledge will no doubt impact upon various decisions.

In an industry where your actions and advice can come under scrutiny, a sufficient business insurance policy could be seen as essential.

There are insurance providers out there who can provide business insurance that’s tailored to the specific requirements of your industry.

As a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) operating in the UK, you’ll be required to maintain professional indemnity insurance in accordance with the RICS Compulsory Professional Indemnity Insurance Regulations.  This states that a firm shall ensure that all previous and current professional work is covered by adequate and appropriate professional indemnity insurance cover which meets standards approved by the Regulatory Board.

If you or your firm faces a negligence claim, having a sufficient policy in place can help ensure you don’t suffer financial loss as a result. It will also ensure that the third party making a claim does not lose out financially because you can’t pay the damages.

Public liability cover and employers’ liability cover are two other considerations.

Public liability:
If a member of the public is injured as a result of your work or your property, this cover could help you meet the cost of a claim.

Employers’ liability
: Helps to cover costs if an employee becomes ill or injured as a result of their work for you.
