Mobile Home Insurance

If you own a static caravan or a mobile home you’ll need the right insurance cover to protect your investment. Whether yours is permanently on a holiday park or stored on private land, there are certain features you need to look for when shopping for the perfect policy.

Make sure the structure of your mobile home is covered, along with any permanent fixtures and fittings. If your static caravan has been enhanced with a balcony, ramp, porch, terrace, patio, verandah, fixed storage, awning or deck, this will also need to be included in your cover. The foundation slab that your caravan is stationed on also needs to be included as this can be very expensive to repair or replace.

Don’t forget to include any gas bottles, batteries, or power generators such as wind turbines or solar panels. Boundary walls and fencing, paths, gates, railings are all insurable items too; think about if they were damaged in a storm or stolen, could you afford to replace them?

Any external fixings and structures, such as television aerials, satellite dishes and masts are also normally included on standard mobile home insurance policies, along with swimming pools, hot tubs, ornamental ponds, water features and fountains. Always check the small print on your policy or the key features of your quote to make sure you’re fully covered.

Look for a comprehensive policy that covers you for the cost of any debris removal following damage or destruction of your mobile home as well as the delivery and re-siting of a replacement van. You’ll need cover for underground services and, during the winter months, get protected for frost damage to the water supply and heating installations.
   
If your van is rented out to supplement your income then consider extending your cover to protect you for loss of rent should your property be damaged beyond repair. You can also get a policy that provides for alternative accommodation so your tenants can still enjoy a well-earned break if your home is temporarily unavailable.
